Since he founded Symbia in 1989, Jim has grown the business by investing in talented, dedicated employees, and by forging strong relationships with clients and industry leaders.

Known for his honesty and easy-going personality, Jim is also a visionary with a knack for spotting opportunities for growth. In 2009, before the e-commerce industry exploded, Jim and his daughter, Megan Smith, saw a need to expedite the movement of goods from the manufacturer to the buyer. To achieve this goal, Jim and Megan assembled a team of cutting-edge logistics specialists to establish new and more efficient procedures for moving goods. As a result, Symbia now ranks as a Top 100 3PL provider.

While Jim loves seeing the needle move at Symbia, the thing he cherishes most is spending time with his wife, Katy, and his six children – Megan, Tommy, Leigh Anne, Ryan, Aubrey, and James. He also enjoys unwinding at his picturesque escape in Somerset, Colorado, or heading to the tropics for a few days of trophy fishing.
